The City of Cambridge is situated just 12 miles away and is crammed with many interesting historic features including Churches, Colleges, Museums and cobbled streets. Open top bus tours of the city can be enjoyed when the weather permits. Cambridge is also the home of the only
American Cemetery in the area.

The small Cathedral City of Ely is just 15 miles north of Newmarket, and is the home to one of the
finest Cathedrals to be found in East Anglia.

The market town of Bury St Edmunds, 12 miles east of Newmarket, is where you are sure to find a bargain from the local Market, held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, or you may prefer to explore the famous Gardens and discover the ruins of the ancient Abbey that once stood on the historic site. The Floral Town of Bury St. Edmunds is not to be missed.

The World-renowned
Imperial War Museum, Duxford is just 25 miles west of Newmarket and offers an insight into pioneering and inspiring aircraft from iconic Spitfires through to Concorde.

Why not take a leisurely drive around the surrounding Suffolk villages where there are plenty of picturesque sights to be seen, especially for budding artists following in John Constables footsteps. Villages not to be missed are Clare, Lavenham and Long Melford to mention just a few.

Newmarket is Famous for our Horseracing. The two courses at Newmarket hold meetings in the Flat season from April-October. Holding the Famous 1000 and 2000 Guineas, along with the increasingly popular Newmarket Nights.

Torch 2012

Unique and special day of fun activities and memories is planned for Newmarket on Saturday 7 July, when the Olympic Torch will be run through the town

The day will also see the annual Newmarket Carnival & Parade, launch of the Newmarket Festival and also, the District Council?s Festival of Culture. Beginning at 5.30pm, a team of seven torch bearers will carry the Olympic flame along a route that begins at Noel Murless Drive, carries on along Fordham Road before passing the Clock Tower, to then travel along the High Street, finishing at Barbara Stradbroke Avenue.
